An antique silkscreen titled “AWAKENING” by Bessie Pease Gutmann American artist (1876-1960). The original was created in 1918. This beautiful silkscreen is marked on the lower right corner: 664 Copyright by Gutmann & Gutmann N.Y. printing company, Made in the U.S.A. It is in the original wood frame under glass measuring 21.5”L x 16”H x 0.75”D weighing 3.1/2 pounds. The artwork is in good antique condition. The old frame is in used antique condition and clearly showing signs of aging, the wood and paint are chipping off in some areas,

Bessie Pease Gutmann's work contributed to the popularity in children imagery which flooded the American commercial art market at the beginning of the twentieth century. Born in 1876, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After high school, Bessie attended the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and the New York School of Art. From 1906 to 1922, Gutmann had designed twenty-two magazine covers and illustrated several popular children's books. She often used her own children, Alice, Lucille, and John, as models for her drawings.
